
Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, has been named the fifth best female athlete in the world for 2022 by World Athletics.Information Guide Nigeria
Using athletics scoring systems, the World Athletics ranked each athlete based on the points earned from their efforts during the season.
The 25-year-old hurdler had a spectacular year, becoming the first Nigerian world champion in an athletics event when she won the 2022 World Championships 100m hurdles gold medal, setting the current world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinal, followed by a 12.06s in the final.NYSC portal
She also won gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham before retaining her Diamond League Trophy in Zurich with a meet record time of 12.29s. Gail Devers, an American legend, held the previous record for 22 years.JAMB portal
The World Athletics Federation recently confirmed Amusan’s women’s world 100m hurdles record, which she set at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, USA.

Amusan was also named to the Women’s World Athlete of the Year Award shortlist of five candidates.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica tops the list, followed by Sharicka Jackson of Jamaica. Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela is third, with Sydney McLaughlin of the United States in fourth.
